Senators and Stars at Phoenix Park Hotel - Washington DC
Washington DC – Phoenix Park hotel, a standout Washington DC hotel near Capital Hill, has used its genuine Irish accommodations and 18th-century countryside charm to attract some of the biggest names in the country, as well as eager DC tourists, since 1922, and with courteous hospitality and service beyond other luxury Washington DC hotels, they’re already in the middle of another star-struck year.
Earlier this year, New York senator and current presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-NY) choose the illustrious lodging in Washington DC to host a photo shoot for her campaign staff. Cordial and fun-spirited, Senator Clinton kept things light with a joke here and there and was even gracious enough to star in some photos herself with the hotel staff. Allowing the dedicated employees of this distinct boutique hotel in Washington DC, from the general management to the bellmen, to be photographed with the country’s biggest icons has long been one of Phoenix Park’s guilty pleasures.
While Senator Clinton’s momentous bid for the presidency was no doubt foremost on the minds of many, talk of the campaign was kept to an appreciated minimum.
Hailing from the opposite coast, academy-award winning actress Marcia Gay Harden joined the company of senators and congressman at a training and information summit for the Suicide Prevention Action Network USA (SPAN USA) hosted this last February in one of the luxury Washington DC hotel’s gorgeous banquet rooms. Accompanied by several members of Capitol Hill including Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR), the star of such films as Mystic River, Pollock, Meet Joe Black, and Mona Lisa Smile was eager to show her support for the grassroots organization.
SPAN USA, founded in 1996, promotes the prevention of suicide by focusing on community education and awareness and state-level political advocacy. During the summit at Phoenix Park downtown hotel in Washington DC, guests were treated to an enlightening tour of Capitol Hill and a fascinating presentation of Lifekeeper Memory Quilts, and of course, they managed to sneak a few photos with Ms. Harden.
Phoenix Park Hotel, the leading luxury hotel in Washington DC, couldn’t be more proud and excited to have entertained these magnanimous guests.
About Phoenix Park Hotel:
Proudly leading hotels in Washington DC for the rich accommodations and unbeatable location that DC visitors of all kinds desire, Phoenix Park Hotel stands apart with a genuine Irish feel infused into every last detail. Experience the stately service you’d expect on the Celtic countryside while enjoying the convenience of modern amenities including HD television and complimentary high-speed Internet access and an unrivaled Capitol Hill location. It’s your only choice for exciting Washington DC vacations. Visit us here.

On Saturday, May 10, three area bed and breakfasts will guide tourists and locals on a path sure to please all five senses.
With the help of local experts and nurseries, they will explore all facets of herbs – starting with aesthetically pleasing additions to gardens, whether in containers, traditional herb gardens or intermingled with favorite perennial partners.
They’ll learn the medicinal properties, new ways to use both the fragrance and taste of herbs and finish the day with a feast of a five-course herb-inspired dinner on Saturday night.
Not to be overlooked is the obvious “green” benefit of growing your own herbs and having them at hand whenever the inspiration arrives to make your own salad dressing, marinade, seasoning, or add an element of crisp flavor to any dish. The fresh quality will certainly be the favored alternative to driving to the local store and buying plastic-encased herbs that have sat in warehouses, trucked across the country, or shipped from outside the US.
The package is offered at $250 per couple and includes all tours, tastings, lunch, dinner and transportation. The event is open to the public. Guests can arrange to stay at any of the bed and breakfasts and receive a special herb-inspired gift basket.

Donna Hufford Tapped as Interim CEO of Redwood Parks Lodge Company
ORICK, Calif. - February 13, 2008 - Redwood Parks Lodge Company, the leading lodging, hospitality and entertainment company serving the coastal region of northern California, today announced that Donna Hufford has been named Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the unexpected death two weeks ago of John Russavage, former chairman and CEO.
Hufford's appointment was made by the company's board of directors, and the company has begun a
search for a permanent CEO.
For the past five years, Hufford has been Chief Financial Officer of Redwood Parks Lodge Company, as well as one of the company's first shareholders. She is a business manager for (and a partner in) Hufford Construction, and she currently serves as Secretary, Treasurer and CFO of Redwood Creek Builders, a building construction company in Orick. Hufford has also previously served as the president of the Orick Chamber of Commerce.
Hufford graduated from Oregon College of Education (currently Oregon State Western College) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
"As a long-time officer and shareholder of Redwood Parks Lodge Company, as well as a native and long-time resident of the northern California coastal region, Donna has the background and experience, as well as the support of the local community, needed to continue to help drive the company forward as we identify an qualified permanent CEO candidate," said Gerald Niesar, counsel to Redwood Parks Lodge Company and partner of Niesar & Whyte, LLP.
As previously announced by the company, John ("Johnny Redwood") Russavage, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Redwood Parks Lodge Company, died unexpectedly Friday, January 25, 2008 at his home in Trinidad, California. Since its founding in 2002, the company began its efforts to become the premiere lodging, hospitality and entertainment company serving the coastal region of northern California, particularly the area in and around Redwood National and State Parks.
Specifically, under Russavage's direction, Redwood Parks Lodge Company
- Acquired three parcels of commercially zoned land adjacent to or near the Redwood Parks system;
- Completed the first phase of its development by totally refurbishing six existing sawmill employee houses into luxurious, 1,200-square foot vacation cabins at Redwood Adventures Village surrounded by Redwood National Park;
- Secured permission to conduct guided tours, hikes and excursions throughout the Redwood Parks system and Humboldt County, as well as hold special events/festival services within the parks system;
- Launched Redwood Adventures TV, a 30- and 60-minute series launched in January 2008 by the company and broadcast in the region on CBS KVIQ (Channel 6) and Access Humboldt (Channel 12);
- Initiated the planning and development of an 80-room Holiday Inn family resort hotel in Orick, expected to open for business in late 2009;
- Laid the ground work for a world-class resort lodge on its northern-most property, a lodge that would (when completed) match the scope and majesty of the lodges in Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks; and
- Launched a guide service for visitors to Redwood National and State Parks and the surrounding areas.
"I am humbled and honored to accept this position as Interim CEO of Redwood Parks Lodge Company," Hufford said. "Johnny was truly a bigger-than-life man with an amazing vision for Redwood Parks Lodge Company, and he had a fantastic drive to help get this company so far in such a short period of time. I promise to do all I can to ensure that we continue to move this company forward towards the dreams that John had for both Redwood Parks Lodge Company and for this region."

Room With A View Tulsa OK
Couple Restores Home Into Woodward Park Bed & Breakfast
It has been about a year since Mark and Janet Mobbs’ lives transformed from 9-to-5ers to innkeepers.
But if you ask the Tulsa couple, who restored a home built in 1920 into the Inn at Woodward Park, they’ll say it was much longer than that.
“It took almost three years to renovate, and we did most of it ourselves,” Mark Mobbs said.
The result was a bed-and-breakfast at 1521 E. 21st St. with a perfect view looking south onto Woodward Park.
With three guest rooms, a sunroom and plenty of common areas, the Inn at Woodward Park has become the Mobbses’ new home and a second career for both. Mark Mobbs spent years as an accountant, and Janet Mobbs is a former X-ray technician.
“We were looking for an investment property and I saw this listed, and I thought it was a very good price for its location,” Janet Mobbs said. “But when we looked at it we saw why. It had water damage, and squirrels were living upstairs. It was really sad.”
The house’s poor condition initially kept them away, but a few months later, Janet Mobbs saw the house listed as a tear-down property.
After looking at it again, this time with an architect, they realized the house was solid and just needed a “little bit” of reconstructive work.
That little turned into a lot, and after restoring the entire house, they opened their doors last year.
They transformed an old sleeping porch with a knockout view into a sunroom full of cozy sofas for reading or relaxing.
The three guest bedrooms range from a snug bedroom suited for business travelers to a
honeymoon suite with a Jacuzzi tub. To use every inch of the space, they have turned many of the closets into showers or full bathrooms.
Janet Mobbs said they kept the 1920s feel throughout the home with its decor, which is most evident in what they call the Hollywood Room — a guest room fitted in cool blue accented with brown velvet and other luxurious textiles.
“We really wanted to keep that 1920s feel because that was when Tulsa was in its heyday,” she said.
Since opening the bed and breakfast, the couple has met travelers from Oklahoma and its surrounding states and even the world.
“We’ve had people from Sweden, Australia, Russia, Israel, the West Indies and Canada,” Mark Mobbs said.
“I think I’ve gotten such a good education from the people from the other countries. I’ve never been out of the U.S.,” Janet Mobbs said.
Most guests enjoy the inn’s close proximity to Utica Square or St. John Medical Center, and many others are involved in weddings in the area.
“Our busiest time last year was the change of seasons — April and October. If you want to stay when the azaleas at Woodward Park are blooming, you’d better make reservations now,” Janet Mobbs said, laughing.
They’ve even had a brush with fame, when a person recently called from the “Rachael Ray Show.”
“I thought it was a joke. I said, ‘Really, who is this?’ ” Janet Mobbs said.
The show needed a place to film an interview, and the representative found the Inn at Woodward Park from its Web site. But the Mobbs are being kept in suspense, for they weren’t told the identity of the guest or the air date of the show.
“Rachael Ray did send us an autographed photo,” Janet Mobbs said.

tour begins at daybreak and lasts until late afternoon. While anglers are required to have their own current fishing license and permits, the tour includes a professional fishing guide, boat and all the necessary tackle and bait for the day.
Fishing tours are available year round and are $250 per person per day. The best months for fresh water fishing are October-March.
Spawn Observation Tour
Redwood Adventures Tours spawn observation tours, lead by biologists and fishery experts, direct participants to a variety of locations to study the migration and spawning of wild salmon. In addition to watching this age old phenomenon, participants will learn about the history, habitat, ecology, cultural and historic importance of salmon on the north coast.
The spawn observation tour is available September-March. Tours can be scheduled in half and full day increments and start at $125 per person.
Salmon Culinary Instruction
Redwood Adventures Tours' expert chef shows visitors a variety of ways to prepare salmon, the most versatile fresh water fish when it comes to preparation. The salmon culinary instruction is available year round and pricing depends on the season. Please call for more information.

the Redwood National and State Parks boarding Orick, California
ORICK, Calif. - June 4, 2007 - As part of a local celebration of National Trails Day, more than 100 tourists, vendors and event staffers enjoyed a day of guided biking, hiking and kayak tours, gear demonstrations, food and music at Redwood Adventures, a vacation resort boarding the Redwood National and State Parks.
"I spent the day with local scout troops on Lost Man's Creek trail and watching tourists from as far away as England get their first intimate taste of the redwood forest - I couldn't be more pleased," said John 'Johnny Redwood' Russavage, chairman and chief executive officer of Redwood Adventures.
